Balestre, a life of exception…

FIA President Max Mosley paid tribute to his predecessor Jean-Marie Balestre, who passed away today.

Balestre was president of the FIA from 1986 to 1993, at which point he stepped down to make way for the current leader.

In 1993, he had to give way to Mosley, who had taken over the presidency of FISA in 1991 after an election.

Reacting to the news of Balestre’s death, Mosley stated that he will be missed by everyone within the motorsport community.

« It is with immense sadness that we learned of the passing of Jean-Marie, » commented Mosley.

« His contribution to motor sports in France and around the world has been unique. »

« He will be missed by everyone involved in our sport and those same people join me in extending our sincere condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time. »
