The United States Grand Prix will only return to Formula 1 if its financial situation allows it. Tony George, the owner of the venue, has been very clear on this matter!

The Indianapolis race is absent from the official calendar in 2008. This is the first time since the 2000 season. George and Bernie Ecclestone, the head of F1, failed to reach a new agreement over the winter.

Although there have been some rumors in recent weeks about a possible return of the race as early as 2009, George remains cautious about the situation.

He clearly stated that the event must attract enough sponsors to make the race financially viable if the Grand Prix hopes for a return.

George might change certain terms of the previous contract on the financial side to make Ecclestone more cooperative.

Speaking on a local radio station, George said he had high hopes for the talks with potential new sponsors.

« Our return depends on whether or not we find good partners to sponsor the Formula 1 event, » said George regarding the future of the Grand Prix.

« We must improve the financial performance of the event to justify the pleasure of inviting you. »

« We will do nothing without sponsorship operations. We are striving to convince people who might find it beneficial to sponsor us. Something can be undertaken as early as 2009 to then approach Bernie Ecclestone with a proposal, » he concluded.
