Ferrari hopes that the tests it conducted on the Bahrain circuit during pre-season testing will be useful next month for the third round of the world championship.
The Scuderia, together with Toyota, conducted six days of testing in Sakhir last February.
Even though the team expects conditions that will be very different, Stefano Domenicali, team principal, believes that this experience will help Ferrari.
« It is clear that we are going to take advantage of these tests for the preparation of the Grand Prix, » said Domenicali in Malaysia.
« But the conditions will be different: The tests were carried out in February and now we are going there at the beginning of April. The temperatures will be different as well as the conditions. Having spent more days on this circuit compared to the other teams is something positive. »
Ferrari will aim for a second consecutive victory after Kimi Räikkönen’s win on Sunday in Sepang.
Domenicali admitted wanting to focus on the positive aspects of this Malaysian weekend but added that missing a one-two finish with Massa’s help had been a disappointment.
The Brazilian was in second position when he went off the track during the 31st lap.
« It is clear that with our strong potential, not achieving 18 points is a very big regret. Let’s say it’s a bittersweet situation! »
« But I want the Malaysian Grand Prix to remain a very positive event for the whole team, meaning the people who work daily within the Scuderia. After the race in Australia, we wanted to show that it was just a minor setback, we reacted in the right way, » he concluded.
