Jarno Trulli dedicated his excellent fourth place in the Malaysian Grand Prix to his team. According to him, this success is the result of the efforts made over the winter.
The Italian managed to hold off Lewis Hamilton’s comeback in the final phase of the race to deliver a result proving that the Japanese manufacturer is now one of the leading teams in the midfield. Trulli says he is delighted with this restart to the season.
« I was at the heart of a battle against the McLarens for most of the race, I was still fighting with them, » he stated.
They were a little faster than me in certain sectors, but I never gave up. The hardest part was holding off Hamilton until crossing the checkered flag.
« But I didn’t want to give up. I really wanted that fourth place for the team and for myself. We did a fantastic job, and I dedicate this result to the whole team. »
« Everyone did a very good job over the winter. Today, Toyota gave me the car that allows me to compete at the level of the best. It performed excellently throughout the weekend, and I am very happy with this result, » continued Trulli.
Although the chances of a podium were dashed by a minor incident with Nick Heidfeld at the first corner, the Roman admits that even without this minor collision, he would have struggled to do better than fourth place.
« I veered a little to the right and I didn’t see Nick, and now with the cockpit being higher, it’s difficult to see a car on the side. So, we touched each other and lost a bit of time. »
« After that, I ran my own race. It would have been better to come out third from the first corner, but I believe we couldn’t maintain that position because our pace wasn’t as fast as the competing cars, » concluded the Italian.
