The rules for pit stop procedures in the DTM championship could be modified for the 2008 season. According to Motorsport Aktuell, a proposal was submitted for the first stop to occur within a four-lap window at the beginning of the second third of the race.

The second stop can be made a little more freely but must be done before the end of the second third of the race.

Voices have been raised in recent seasons for the pit stop procedure to be modified in order to make race comprehension easier for the public.

Another reason that was confirmed several times during the 2007 season: Teams were observing their rivals’ strategies and telling their drivers to stay on track longer. These teams had less fuel, and their cars were much faster, allowing them to get ahead of their competitors. With a smaller window to operate the stops, this strategy is no longer possible.

The current rules for pit stops are as follows:

Two mandatory pit stops (with refueling and tire changes). The first mandatory stop cannot be made before the 6th lap.
