Sébastien Ogier’s post-race promotion to eighth place at the Rally Mexico allows him to become the first J-WRC driver to score a point in the WRC World Rally Championship Drivers’ standings.
The newcomer in this championship and his co-driver Julien Ingrassia got off to the best possible start in the 2008 season by winning the opening round in the Junior category, the Rally Mexico, driving their Citroën C2.
The ninth position of Ogier at the finish of the Rally Mexico was already a record for a Junior championship contender, but the disqualification of Ricardo Trivino for wearing non-compliant gloves allows Ogier to further advance in the record books.
« Of course, I am very happy because it is a record and a great achievement for my first World Championship event », said Ogier.
« But the most important thing remains the J-WRC and maintaining my first position. I have to continue on this path. Now, Julien and I are heading to Argentina to participate in the reconnaissance as the event is on the 2009 calendar. We still don’t know what we will do next season, but I want to gain as much experience as possible. »
The next rally in which the 24-year-old Frenchman will participate will be the second event on the J-WRC calendar: the Jordan Rally.
