Malaysian GP – Standings after the second GP 2008

After a Malaysian Grand Prix less eventful than the Australian one, 17 drivers finished the race at Sepang. However, only 8 of them were able to score points in the drivers’ championship. [Standings]

Räikkönen does not miss a second consecutive Grand Prix, as his teammate Massa did. The Finn, winner in Malaysia, scores 10 points and puts himself back in the title race at the same level as Heidfeld. Both are in second place in the standings.

First, Lewis Hamilton, who maintains his status as leader with a slight lead. He now has 14 points. His teammate from McLaren is just behind the top three (4th) with 10 points. Following is the Polish driver Kubica, who with his second place in Malaysia, enters the rankings directly at 5th place with 8 points.

Then, we find Alonso and Rosberg tied in 6th place, both with 6 points. Trulli is 8th after his fantastic race at Sepang, finishing in 4th position. Finally, Nakajima, Webber, and Bourdais are in 9th, 10th, and 11th place respectively.

In the constructor standings, Massa’s retirement doesn’t allow Ferrari to catch up on the gap accumulated in Melbourne, and McLaren takes the lead with 24 points, followed by BMW-Sauber with 19 points. The Scuderia is thus in 3rd place, 8 points behind the German team. Williams remains stagnant in 4th place, while Renault does not take advantage and is in 5th place this evening, with only the additional point scored by Alonso in Malaysia.

Toyota makes a smashing entry at 6th place just 1 point behind the French team. Finally, Red Bull, a new entrant in this ranking, and Toro Rosso close the standings with 2 points, both teams are 7th.
