Summary – Saturday – Bourdais and Vettel lose ground for Toro Rosso

The Scuderia Toro Rosso just missed an opportunity to showcase all its talents in this 2008 season. It’s true that the drivers are racing with 2007 cars, but last weekend, in the blink of an eye, the result could have been excellent.

Starting both from the second half of the grid, Vettel and Bourdais will have a long way to go if they want to score points again for Toro Rosso. A journey that could be shortened thanks to the rain…

Sebastian Vettel – 9th and 15th:

Today, Q3 was truly out of our reach. Unlike the Melbourne circuit, here you have a lot of fast corners and those don’t really suit us. I think we did our best. Unfortunately, on my last fast lap, I made a mistake in turn 14.

« Of course, I went as fast as possible but this moment of inattention cost me about two tenths. We can be satisfied. I think we have a good set-up for race conditions. »

Sébastien Bourdais – 18th and 18th:

« I was 15th during my second quick lap and the car was ready to join Q2, but then I had a brake problem in the second corner, I couldn’t do anything. »

« It’s been a tough weekend so far since yesterday, I couldn’t cover many kilometers. The sky doesn’t seem to be with us. I hope to have more luck tomorrow if the weather turns stormy. »

Giorgio Ascanelli – Technical Director:

« We had to change Bourdais’ engine after the morning session. Then in the afternoon, his car suffered a brake problem which forced him to slow down on his fast lap. »

« We confirm that the Sepang circuit is demanding for the entire car. My biggest regret is the lack of reliability we have seen in certain areas over the past two weeks. »
