The Ferrari team admitted today that their car’s reliability issues were their primary concern, as the Italian team suffered a disastrous opening Grand Prix.
A series of problems befell both Ferrari drivers during the qualifying sessions that prevented them from qualifying well, leaving the McLarens far ahead. During the race, the engines of both Ferraris failed, with the Italian team scoring only one point due to Barrichello’s disqualification.
However, the Italian team is determined to address the problems encountered in Australia as quickly as possible, as the Malaysian Grand Prix is only in 6 days.
The president of Ferrari, Stefano Domenicali, stated:
« We said this from the start: Reliability is a fundamental element, and having had the engines of both our drivers fail does not give us peace of mind.
“We must try to understand what happened. We need to react quickly,” he stated.
« There is still much to do in this area, and it will make a difference. It is true that we were not phenomenal before, but we have not become stupid now. Obviously, we need to analyze everything that happened step by step, because this weekend was really bad in every aspect. »
Although Finnish Kimi Räikkönen made many mistakes on the track, perhaps trying to attack too much or get rid of his competitors too quickly, Domenicali does not criticize the 2007 World Champion’s approach.
« A driver must always attack. He was right to attack because he thought he was faster than his competitors. » he concluded.
