Webber: Hamilton will belong to the GPDA one day

Mark Webber, a member of the ‘Grand Prix Drivers Association’ (GPDA), has strongly criticized Hamilton because the latter categorically refuses to join the organization. The Australian stated that he was convinced the young Briton would eventually give in.

The leaders of the GPDA have made hiring Hamilton one of their main objectives, but the world vice-champion stated that he currently doesn’t have the time to contribute positively to the organization.

But Webber believes that Hamilton’s attitude will soon change, and that one day he will wake up with a firm desire to belong to the GPDA because safety is everyone’s business.

« I am quite confident that he will eventually realize the benefits of belonging to the GPDA, » Webber said.

« Maybe one day there will be real safety barriers on the Jerez circuit. This is something the GPDA has allowed to improve significantly over the past three or four years. »

Webber said he didn’t understand why a large number of young drivers didn’t automatically seize this opportunity to be part of the organization, especially since their only commitment would be to attend a meeting that takes place every Grand Prix Friday.

We are working tirelessly with the FIA to improve the safety standards of the circuits.

It’s a somewhat selfish reaction on the part of those guys. You just have to be present for 20 minutes, once every two weeks on average, he concluded.
