New Zealander Johnny Reid has shown great optimism for the two A1 Grand Prix races in Mexico, which will take place tonight (for France).

With the A1 Team New Zealand, Reid secured pole position and will therefore start first in the sprint race, number 1. During the endurance race qualifications, he recorded the 6th fastest time behind many solid competitors, but that won’t be enough to discourage him.

New Zealand is currently third in the championship, 20 points behind Switzerland and 10 points behind France due to their poor results in Durban, South Africa three weeks ago. By winning tonight, they hope to make up their deficit on the leaders, particularly on France, who are struggling this weekend.

« Last year, I started the race in 16th position and finished in 6th place. This shows that you can definitely turn things around here. But if I start well and, above all, get through the first corner without any issues, it’s entirely possible to maintain the first place. »

« I should pay attention to Switzerland and France, but it won’t be my priority. We can’t control everything, so I will first run for myself before taking care of you where the others are. » Continues the New Zealander.

« We have nothing to lose. Last year we took second place here, but it’s not easy to win. I still hope to be able to win both races. Starting 6th and coming back for the victory is quite conceivable! »
