Alonso/Hamilton: An explosive cocktail for Webber!

Mark Webber predicts a very close 2008 championship, perhaps even hotter than that of 2007, as Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton are now in two different teams.

He thinks that Kimi Räikkönen should be wary of these two drivers who are more likely to hit hard, now that they are no longer teammates.

« There was a lot of tension last year, but I think Fernando and Lewis could prove to be even more spirited this season, » said the Australian to BBC Sport.

« Each will not beat around the bush for overtaking because they are in a different team. Including Kimi, the fight could prove to be exciting and fascinating. »

While Renault hasn’t really convinced its rivals, particularly McLaren and Ferrari, Webber believes that Alonso could very well find himself up against Räikkönen and Hamilton.

« We agree that the R28s are not on the same pace as the Ferraris and McLarens, but I think Alonso could occasionally join the leading duo. He won’t win the war, but undoubtedly, a few of the battles should be interesting. »

The native of the first Grand Prix of the season expects a Ferrari domination at Albert Park this weekend.

« McLaren seems quite fast, but Ferrari is truly the favorite team for this weekend. They always seem to have an advantage in Melbourne as they start the season as well! » Concluded Marc Webber.
