Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone hopes that Silverstone will succeed in building the facilities he envisions, but at the same time, places the responsibility on the organizing committee if this Grand Prix were to disappear from the calendar.
With plans for major redevelopment of Silverstone still awaiting final approval from the local council, Ecclestone does not hide the fact that the circuit needed an upgrade if it hoped to continue hosting F1 cars.
Speaking to BBC Radio 1, Ecclestone, however, specified that any responsibility for the disappearance of this Grand Prix from the official calendar in the future would lie with the organizing bodies.
When asked if he would feel responsible for the event’s downfall, Ecclestone said: « No, Silverstone will disappear on its own. »
Speaking about the situation at Silverstone, Ecclestone stated: « For 5 years, the organizers have known what they need to do to maintain the circuit but they still haven’t done anything. »
« We cannot have the most beautiful circuits around the world and have a home Grand Prix with the worst facilities one can find. Motorsport was born in England. But ultimately, I am sure the circuit will redouble its efforts to achieve satisfactory results. »
