The co-owner of Scuderia Toro Rosso, Gerhard Berger, revealed that Sebastian Vettel is likely to outclass his teammate Sébastien Bourdais, a newcomer, in the first qualifying session of the 2008 season next weekend.
Bourdais, a four-time champion in Champ Car, recently admitted he does not feel fully confident at the wheel of his Toro Rosso STR2-B when it has a low fuel level and new tires.
During the tests, Vettel was faster than our new driver Bourdais, commented the former Grand Prix driver for Motorsport Aktuell.
One of the Austrian F1 legends explained that the switch from slick tires in Champ Car to grooved tires in F1 makes it difficult for Bourdais to perform at his best.
« The good news is that on long trips, both are equal. But in the qualifying process, Bourdais still needs to improve. »
« With Vettel, Bourdais found a teammate who has many qualities such as the ability to motivate his team and speed in the race, » he concluded.
