Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the new safety and medical cars that will be used during the 2008 Formula 1 season.
The safety car is based on the SL 63 AMG while the one intended for medical assistance is derived from the C 63 AMG Estate.
Both were developed by AMG and the ‘Performance Studio’.
The safety car, which will be driven by Bernd Maylander, was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show.
It will be equipped with a 6.3-liter AMG V8 engine producing 525 horsepower. It will go from 0 to 62 mph in 4.6 seconds.
The car weighs 220 kg less than the vehicles coming off the production lines.
This is the eighth generation of AMG safety car, which has been the official F1 supplier since the 1996 season.
