BMW keeps hope for a victory in 2008!

The director of the BMW Sauber team has confirmed the goals set by the German team at the beginning of the year. Mario Theissen indeed specified that they still aim to achieve their first F1 victory this season despite some issues encountered with the new single-seater.

BMW finished as the runner-up in the constructors’ championship in 2007 due to McLaren being disqualified. Always aiming for progress, the Bavarian team was encouraging at the start of the year, anticipating a possible Grand Prix victory this year after several podium finishes last season.

« During the winter we consciously opted for a change of concept on the BMW Sauber F1.08 », stated the German leader.

« In order to catch up with the teams ahead of us, we had to adopt an even more aggressive approach than last year, and the reliability of the new car was very good from the start. »

« We also know that a car with enormous capabilities is more complicated to adjust than a car that will quickly reach its limits. That’s why we still need to progress to find the optimal settings. I think we are on the right track. » He reassures.

Since the arrival of the F1.08, tested since mid-January by Kubica and Heidfeld, the team has encountered some problems. Indeed, the balance of the car, which is very variable, would make it difficult to drive.

Theissen and BMW nonetheless want to be unanimous and assert that their objectives remain unchanged a week before the first Grand Prix of 2008, in Melbourne (Australia).

Our objectives are ambitious for 2008 and above all unchanged: We want to close the gap with the leaders and, most importantly, win our first race.
