All nighttime events in Europe are ruled out!

The Formula One teams have abandoned the idea of organizing a night test session in Europe for this season, which could have been a preparation for the Singapore Grand Prix.

A working group in F1 had indeed considered holding a night event. The teams and drivers could have better understood the challenges posed by this type of race.

With the addition of different lighting, a night race leads to a drop in ambient temperatures, which would require different setup levels for the tires, for example. This means an increased workload.

Moto GP riders, in preparation for their first night race in Qatar this weekend, conducted nighttime tests last week. It wasn’t the light but the cold temperatures that posed challenges.

Moreover, the F1 teams have found that the cost was too high to justify these tests, especially in a context where cost reduction is at the center of discussions.

This means, therefore, that the teams and drivers will only have nighttime driving experience during the second free practice session on Friday night before the Singapore Grand Prix in September.

However, the race officials will conduct lighting tests before the event in order to provide information to the teams about the conditions they will face.
