Stage 18 canceled! Loeb nearing success

The organizers of the Rally of Mexico have canceled the eighteenth stage, the second planned for the day.

The decision was made quickly after noting the presence of a very large number of spectators on the sides of stage 18. This is the first time that a stage cancellation has occurred for this reason in Mexico. In Sweden, during the second rally in 2008, stage 18 was also canceled due to a blatant lack of ice on the road. Coincidence?

The 22.30 kilometers of Guanajuato made up the longest stage of this final day. This cancellation means that the teams will go directly to the start of SS19, the last countryside stage before returning to Leon and the super special stage no. 20.

Thanks to this cancellation, the biggest risks are avoided for Loen, who therefore takes the opportunity to maintain the lead in the standings, more than a minute ahead of Atkinson’s Subaru Impreza and Jari-Matti Latvala, who clearly cannot make up for his delay.
