The head of F1, Bernie Ecclestone, hopes to be able to offer fans around the world a French Grand Prix in Paris for next year.
The French race currently taking place at Magny-Cours is reportedly less and less coveted due to low revenues. However, it was agreed to keep it on the official 2008 calendar, but for next year, it will disappear entirely if a new location is not found.
The Brit insists that F1 will not return to Magny-Cours and he hopes he will be able to secure the future of the race in Paris.
« I hope we will be able to set something up in Paris. We need a new site for the French Grand Prix so that we are no longer forced to return to Magny-Cours, » said Ecclestone to the German sports press SID.
« The government has understood the expectations well. We had initially decided not to return to Magny-Cours this year. »
« A Grand Prix in London or Paris would be better for the spectators and television viewers. I hope an agreement with Paris for 2009 will be possible, » concluded Ecclestone.
