Kimi Räikkönen admitted that he cannot name a favorite team for 2008. This is what he thinks, and even the fairly successful pre-season tests for Ferrari do not give him an idea, and he prefers to wait for the Australian Grand Prix.
In the long term, the pace of the F2008 during winter testing has been good, noted the reigning world champion, but Räikkönen is not sure about the current situation.
« I don’t know, » he said when asked if he thought Ferrari would be the team to beat in 2008.
« I think we have a solid package, but we don’t know how fast the other teams will be. We can only see this in the race. We are, in any case, quite satisfied with what we have done over the winter. »
« I think the reliability is good. We had a few small issues last year that caused the car to stop a few times during the race, but that can always happen. »
However, Räikkönen specified that Ferrari had prepared as best as it could for the start of the season.
« We have done everything we could and it will be nice to be back in the race again, » added the Finn.
In Melbourne, we will see who is fast or who is not because you cannot only judge from tests.
« Someone is fast one day and another guy, another day. We’ll wait a few weeks and then we’ll know the situation in qualifying. But I think McLaren will be there. »
Räikkönen argued that the F2008 was a step forward compared to last year’s model, which was awarded in all areas.
« I think the car is a little better in all areas. We have improved the rear a bit, and the whole thing works well with the tires, » he concluded.
