The Spaniard accentuates the impression of bad luck for the team with the chevrons after Loeb’s engine problems yesterday. He finishes his day just after starting it and will likely restart tomorrow in an unofficial championship.
At the end of the first special stage, it was Jari-Matti Latvala who ultimately took the lead in the rally. Loeb arrived 4th with his original engine.
Other issues are to be noted in this super special as Peter Solberg lost a lot of time after hitting a stray dog. Unfortunately, the animal died while the Subaru is seriously damaged.
The Suzuki of Gardemeister also experienced a mechanical problem with the gearbox. The Finn lost more than four minutes in the process.
