The Jerez Tests: Last Hopes for Honda…

Jenson Button admits that his Honda Racing team still has a lot of work to do to hope to produce something reassuring at the Melbourne Grand Prix. They will be on the track in Jerez, Spain, next week, and it will be the Japanese team’s last chance to raise the competitiveness of their RA108 for the start of the season.

The team, in its current configuration, is far from reassuring. It hopes that the aerodynamics and certain mechanical updates, which will be launched for the first time next week during private testing, will help answer some questions.

Button, who posted poor times this week in Barcelona, admitted that the car was not yet where he wanted it to be.

« Our main aerodynamic update and some new mechanical developments will arrive for the tests in Jerez next week. We have a lot to do to ensure an honorable level of competitiveness in Melbourne, » he said.

« We have, to date, provided significant work to overcome our various problems, but the pace and lap times are not there yet. »

Rubens Barrichello estimated that the RA108 was too inconsistent at the moment and that any prediction about its future pace was impossible.

« We note that the car’s performance is quite varied. The single-seater performed very well on the second day at the Catalunya circuit, » declared the Brazilian.

« It is too early to make predictions about the performance we will have with our new aerodynamic package that will be implemented next week. »
