Reactions – Yet Renault assessed the performance

Renault was on the track today once again at the Catalunya circuit for its second day of work this week. The sky was overcast this morning but eventually cleared up nicely by midday, offering more interesting track conditions for Fernando Alonso and Nelson Piquet.

After primarily working yesterday on race procedures and pit stop simulations, the team focused more today on the car’s performance, seeking to improve it.

Fernando Alonso conducted various aerodynamic tests and evaluated different elements, while Nelson Piquet continued to fine-tune his car based on the data recorded yesterday. The Spaniard concluded the session with 79 laps covered and his teammate with 45.

Fernando Alonso: « We made good progress as the track was dry all day. We tried some new parts and developments for Melbourne and it was also an opportunity to check everything before the first Grand Prix. We still need to gain in performance and general pace but we have the potential, I am convinced of it. We still have a day of testing to complete and we must make the most of it! »

Nelson Piquet: « We didn’t complete as many laps as we might have wanted, but the day was nevertheless very productive and we gathered interesting data. As a rookie, every lap behind the wheel is an opportunity to learn and progress. Of course, it would be nice to have a little more time to prepare for the first race, but I believe we used the time available to us well. We will do more race simulations tomorrow, including some long stints if possible. »

For what will be the last day of preparation before leaving for Australia in about ten days, the team will once again have a busy schedule tomorrow and will strive to make the most of this final opportunity.

Christian Silk, Chief Test Engineer: « The track conditions were good and we made good progress in our program. We have new elements to try and have recorded interesting data that we will now analyze. We did some fine-tuning and aerodynamic tests which proved to be encouraging. We will try to make the most of the last day available to us. »
