Josef Kral will join the A1 Team Czech Republic as a full-time driver for the next round of the season this weekend in Durban (South Africa).

The very young 17-year-old driver is expected to continue with the team for the rest of the season, thus replacing Tomas Enge and Erik Janis, both occupied in other championships.

Kral was present in British Formula BMW last year. He says he is eager to race in A1GP: « It’s an excellent opportunity for me, even though it will be very difficult because everything is new. Fortunately, I have never needed much time to adapt in the past and I got used to an F3 very quickly. »

Kral will participate this weekend in only his second urban circuit. How does he feel about such an event: « I remember the extra adrenaline I felt when racing at Norisring and I loved it! I hope to achieve a good result or at least finish the race to be able to continue the rest of the season in A1 and discover the Shanghai circuit. This would also allow me to race at Brands Hatch, in the UK, where I have raced often. »

The manager of the Czech team drivers, Antonin Charouz, added: « This is the perfect time for Josef [Kral]. He has demonstrated his speed in Formula BMW, and I am confident that he will quickly get used to the powerful A1GP single-seater. »
