Two weeks after his overwhelming victory at the Monte Carlo Rally, Sébastien Loeb is preparing to start the second round of the season: the Swedish Rally.
A challenge that the French particularly enjoy, firstly because of its icy and snowy surface that forces drivers to adopt a different driving style compared to other surfaces, but also for its very fast roads.
Driving on these very fast icy roads is pure joy. Constantly sliding at very high speed, placing the car, trying to maintain the drifts, using the snowbanks to keep the right trajectory… When the grip provided by the studs is good, it’s a fantastic rally to compete in, confides the reigning world champion.
Let us recall that Sébastien is the only non-Nordic driver to have won in Sweden (in 2004 with the Xsara WRC).
Beyond the uniqueness of this rally, this second round of the season will have a special flavor for Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena as they will start their 100th world event of their career.
« That makes a round number, but I don’t attach too much importance to it. Our goal will be to try to win. It won’t be easy. We’ll have to open the road, which is often a disadvantage in Sweden. Then, our opponents will want to catch up after Monte Carlo and the battle will be tight. It would be fantastic to win for our 100th, but I also know that there are important points to gain for both championships, and I will adjust my pace according to the events… »
Will the phenomenon repeat its 2004 feat for its 100th? Find out this weekend…
