Fairuz Fauzy was announced by his team as the main driver for the 6th round of the season in Australia to drive for A1 Team Malaysia.

The young Malaysian will thus replace, for the first time, Alex Yoong on the Eastern Creek track. Yoong had participated in all 45 races that the team has entered so far, but following disappointing results this season, the management decided to replace him.

Jack Cunningham, the director of A1 Team Malaysia, stated: « We are currently experiencing difficult times in the team with results far below our expectations! »

« We have shown our abilities during the first two seasons, and we hope that, with Fairuz, we can quickly get back on track. »

Fauzy was last year a driver in the World Series by Renault. He is currently driving in GP2 for the brand new ASIA series and has already conducted tests for Midland in 2007. He is very happy about this promotion: « Currently, I was focused on other championships. But I am very happy to be able to race with the team. »

Alex Yoong won 4 races for Malaysia in three seasons. Fauzy will have to do better in the 5 rounds he has left if he is confirmed for the rest of the season.
