For the fourth consecutive year, Dutch driver Tom Coronel will race for SEAT in the WTCC – World Touring Car Championship.

With the return of the SEAT importer to the Netherlands – Pon Car – Coronel will be behind the wheel of a León with the Spanish team SUNRED. The team, which has close ties with SEAT Sport, is located near the Martorell factory.

« I am happy, thanks to SEAT Netherlands, to race again in WTCC this year, » said Tom Coronel. « For me, it’s the best championship and this year has been the best I have experienced. »

After three successful seasons with the GR Asia team, with which Coronel won the Independent’s Trophy in 2006, he has changed teams. They have extensive experience in competition. They have five single-seaters in the Spanish SEAT León Supercup and have already developed their own GT prototype. Last year, they also allowed Rickard Rydell to race under the SEAT Sport banner in Macau, explained Coronel.

The Dutchman is optimistic about his chances for the upcoming season: « First, I will be at the official tests, which wasn’t the case in previous years. Then, I will see what else will be possible to do because recent changes on the technical front have increased the chances of the SEAT petrol cars. »

The Seat team has also announced its intention to continue the development of its gasoline engine.
