Olivier Tielemans announced on his website today that he will continue his career in WTCC. However, in 2008 he will compete for the Independents’ Trophy and not the official championship as he did last year.
The young 23-year-old Dutchman was driving an Alfa Romeo 156 for the N. Technology team in 2007 alongside James Thompson. With Alfa Romeo’s withdrawal of support in the WTCC, N. Technology is uncertain about racing with multiple drivers and has only officially confirmed Thompson.
Tielemans, out of caution, therefore preferred to find a place elsewhere and will drive a BMW 320si for the Wiechers-Sport team this season.
« I learned a lot from James [Thompson] last year and I will try to put this experience to good use. Wiechers is truly one of the most professional and competitive teams in the WTCC. Therefore, I am really looking forward to working with them this season. »
Wiechers-Sport should announce shortly the name of a teammate for Olivier Tielemans. They will thus participate in a few weeks in their pre-season tests before taking their place in Curitiba, Brazil for the first race of 2008.
