Enrique Bernoldi announced today that he has signed a contract with the Champcar Rocketsports Racing team for 2008.
The 29-year-old driver, who raced in 2007 for Brazilian Stock Car, has decided to come to the North American discipline that allowed Bourdais to sign 4 championship titles, replacing Alex Tagliani.
« I am already very excited for this new year starting. I have always loved racing in North America, and I really think that Champcar is the best way for me to do it! » Admits Bernoldi.
I love narrow streets and races that are very close together in time, like in Champcar.
« With the team, we had already conducted tests together during a testing session two years ago. It was good, and I really think we can be complementary. The team will be able to teach me a lot, and I am very happy to have signed this agreement. » continued the Brazilian.
Enrique Bernoldi was a driver for Arrows in Formula 1 for two years before switching to the Nissan World Series and returning as a test driver for BAR Honda F1 from 2004 to 2006.
« Obviously, I would like to regularly finish in the Top 5 and win races, but I know that I must first take the stages one at a time, » Bernoldi acknowledges.
Paul Gentilozzi, the director of Rocketsports, stated: Enrique has a very good analysis of the single-seaters, as he was able to show us during testing. I genuinely believe he is a potential winner.
« Furthermore, it’s good to have been able to sign a driver so early. This way, we can improve by testing the car with him before the start of the season. »
Rocketsports Racing will conduct its first tests from February 2 to 4 at Sebring, Florida.
