Rydell, who drives for Seat Sport, has renewed his contract for 2008 and 2009 with the Spanish team and will drive a Leon TDi this season.

In Kyalami, South Africa, Rickard Rydell got back behind the wheel of a Seat Sport touring car, just as the Swede had done in Macau last September.

However, last week, during this test session, Rydell discovered a TDi Diesel engine, identical to the version used by Yvan Muller and Marc Géné in 2007.

« It’s indeed quite different to drive a diesel compared to a gasoline engine, » he commented on his website.

« The power is much more significant at low revs but above all the weight, now more distributed towards the front, has prompted me to review my driving style. But overall, I had a very good first impression. » Continued the Swede, driver for Seat from 2004 to 2006 before taking several months off in 2007 and only returning for Macau.

The 1988 BTCC champion will therefore be the teammate in 2008 of Yvan Muller, Gabriele Tarquini, Jordi Gene, and Tiago Monteiro. He will also participate in the team’s pre-season tests in Spain, before the first round of the season in Curitiba on March 2 in Brazil.
