The Swiss driver Neel Jani confessed to being satisfied and still attracted by the A1 Grand Prix championship.

The driver, in the running to win the 3rd championship of the discipline with A1 Team Switzerland, would even prefer to focus solely on this championship at the expense of the Champ Car. He might therefore abandon his place in the North American championship.

At the end of the 2007-2008 season, the Swiss will indeed face a difficult choice. Stay in A1, finish his season, and perhaps win the title, or return to Champcar for the start of the 2008 season at the risk of winning nothing…

The two championships are, in fact, staggered. The A1 takes place in winter, the Champcar in summer.

« When I look at the tests we conducted in A1 GP and the races we are going to, why would I want to come back to do Champcar for the rest of the season? »

« Champcar still has a very uncertain future. Furthermore, I haven’t received any offers from teams capable of offering me the driver’s title, so should I risk my A1GP title for that? » He continued.

Jani would therefore be in favor of having a different championship in A1 Grand Prix that would run at the same time as the others. According to him, this would allow a driver to remain in this discipline full-time.

« You can do that and nothing else. In Formula One, drivers don’t have to look for a team for the winter, I don’t see why it would be different with us. »

Switzerland even values its beloved championship: « In A1 GP, you don’t need to come with a budget. You have very good races and cars, and above all, we have very good visibility worldwide. Most drivers aspire to F1. That’s my goal too, but if you look beyond, A1 is also very good. »

Néel Jani is currently in a tie for second place in A1 with France. He is also preparing for F1 tests for 2009.
