The new director of the Citroën C4 WRC team, Olivier Quesnel, who swiftly replaced Guy Frequelin, has been reassuring about the performance of Loeb’s and Sordo’s C4 cars for the remainder of the Rally.

Indeed, Dani Sordo experienced a mechanical issue today during the ES6, allowing Hirvonen (3rd) to come within just 26 seconds of the Spaniard.

Dani Sordo was able to precisely explain the incident: « I noticed my problem in SS6 when taking a hairpin turn after traveling about 5 kilometers… »

There was an immediate change in behavior, and it was obvious there was a problem. The car behaved as if we only had the two rear-wheel drives, but I had no choice, we had to push on anyway…

« We know the origin of the problem, it’s the differential. The team will do its best during the night and tomorrow everything will be just fine with my C4. » He concluded.

If, however, Oliver Quesnel acknowledges that there was an issue with the C4 n°2, he also corrects his driver by stating that the front wheels were still working, even though there was more power at the rear: « Maybe there was less front traction, but there was still some. The team was able to set everything straight today and tomorrow, the car will work perfectly. »

On his side, Mikko Hirvonen, like a predator, said he is ready to take advantage of every mistake and problem of the Iberian to take the second step of the podium.

« If he [Sordo] had a problem today, then he will undoubtedly push hard tomorrow. If he has another problem, I would take advantage of it but I will mainly have to attack even harder to catch up with him! »
