Rampf: « BMW’s problems will be solved! »

BMW Sauber’s technical director, Willy Rampf, confirmed today that the new F1.08 race car will be as fast as its predecessor when the season starts next March.

BMW unveiled its new single-seater only two weeks ago, but the F1.08 has not yet proven itself during private testing this week, just like last week, as performant as the F1.07.

Last year, the German squad secured the runner-up spot in the world championship with the disqualification of McLaren-Mercedes. The F1.08 was therefore aiming to maintain this position, or at least the third place in the constructors’ championship. This currently seems more complicated than expected.

Willy Rampf sought to reassure by noting that the car will be ready for Melbourne on March 9th: « The entire BMW team is hard at work to resolve any issues that arose this week and we are all optimistic. The car will have the necessary pace for the Australian Grand Prix. »

The technical director of BMW also expressed a positive outlook on the reliability of the F1.08.

« In terms of reliability, the F1.08 is already very good »

« We have completed many laps without any notable problems to date. Regarding performance, we are at the beginning of a development phase. We have analyzed the data from the tests conducted so far and have identified the relevant areas. »

« By the next event in Barcelona, the car will have already received some modifications. Then, we will use new components in all other testing sessions until the start of the season. » Continued the German.

« We have set internal team objectives for the first GP, and I am already sure that we will meet them! »
