The Spaniard, driver for the Citroën Sport team, recorded the best time today in the Shakedown of the Monte Carlo Rally – a tuning event.
The Citroën C4 No. 2 driver set the best time during his last run on the Vernoux en Vivarais stage, beating Sébastien Loeb, four-time reigning world champion and Citroën No. 1, by just half a second.
The event took place this morning in Ardèche under almost spring-like conditions.
Sordo commented: « Yes, it’s true that it’s a good start, but it’s not that important in the rally. The most important part will be tomorrow and that’s when I want to be the fastest!
Loeb, on his part, admitted to being afraid of his teammate. For him, he represents the greatest threat to stealing the victory of a 5th Monte-Carlo.
« Look at what he did here last year, » said the Frenchman.
« He was very fast and this year, it will be the same, that’s for sure. Dani will be a threat all season, but certainly more on asphalt than elsewhere. »
The podium is completed by a Subaru, Solberg’s, while Duval, exceptionally participating in a WRC event, finishes 4th.
