Now propelled to leader of the official BP Ford Abu Dhabi team after the retirement of Marcus Grönholm, who has ended his career, Mikko Hirvonen wants to prove to everyone that he is capable of competing with Sébastien Loeb for the title.
Crowned with three victories last year, the Finn approaches this new season full of confidence. “I know it won’t be an easy task, but I’m confident, and I believe I can compete with Loeb this season,” Hirvonen shared.
Mikko will no longer only have to score points for the constructors’ championship for his team, as he did last season, but will also have to defend his chances in the drivers’ championship.
« I now have a huge responsibility. In every rally I will have to fight for the victory. There’s no doubt, in Finland, Japan, Sweden, and Wales, I must absolutely win if I want to earn my first title. »
The Finn would like to add his name to the list of his many fellow countrymen who have been world champions (Ari Vatanen, Hannu Mikkola, Timo Salonen, Juha Kankkunen, Tommi Mäkinen, and Marcus Grönholm). Will his dream come true in 2008?
