Weather conditions disrupt BMW’s schedule

BMW began its initial tests with the new car yesterday in Valencia, Spain.

The German team, officially the 2007 world vice-champion, had an encouraging first outing yesterday with Robert Kubica. Unfortunately, the bad weather conditions, strong winds mixed with rain, forced BMW to delay its testing program.

Kubica was supposed to complete long stints today to validate all the computer tools in particular. He couldn’t drive properly throughout the day but still did 105 laps. His teammate, Nick Heidfeld, completed 74 laps in the F1.07 to study the new electronic control unit (ECU).

Tomorrow, the team will return to the track with much better expected conditions. The F1.08 will then be on the track with Nick Heidfeld. He will test the single-seater with the 2008 version V8 engines for the first time.

The German will be accompanied by his compatriot, almost official test driver for the brand, Marko Asmer, who will complete about thirty laps with an F1.07 from last season.
