The British Formula 3 driver, John Martin, has been promoted to a full-time position for the next race of the season in New Zealand. The 23-year-old driver will replace Yan Dyk in Team A1 Australia after a more than mediocre debut.
Alan Jones, the director of the Australian team stated: « John [Martin] will take the position of starting driver at Taupo to jump-start our season which has started rather slowly… »
« John is one of those new talents who brings a lot to our championship. We are eager to see him perform in the race and we expect good results. »
Alain Jones also wanted to thank Yan Dyk for his efforts since the beginning of the year and his podium in Mexico last season.
The decision was complicated and difficult. But we want to thank Dyk for his superb work over the past two seasons. I also wish him the best for the rest of his career. He said.
Martin, a reserve driver for the past four rounds of the championship, also praised his predecessor.
« Ian is a really great guy and he’s a great ambassador for the team, » he explained. « I learned a lot working alongside him and I wish him the best for the future. »
« I now have the tough task of bringing the team up from the bottom of the standings. »
Australia is currently in 17th place in the championship with only two points in the first four rounds.
