Stefano D’Aste will join Proteam Motorsport (winner of the 2007 teams’ trophy) for the upcoming season in the “Independents” category and will race alongside Sergio Hernández, driving a BMW 320si.
Together, D’Aste and Proteam participated in the WTCC championship in 2005 and 2006 with excellent results. The driver finished third twice in the “Independents” trophy (including a great second place in the second race at Spa), while the team led by Valmiro Presenzini won the 2005 team trophy.
They then parted ways the following season. D’Aste then joined the Wiechers-Sport brand and managed to win the Independent Drivers’ Trophy, while Proteam strengthened its lineup with Luca Rangoni’s and Sergio Hernández’s BMWs, which finished 2nd and 4th in the standings, respectively.
