The president of the A1GP series, Tony Teixeira, stated that Bernie Ecclestone had been very helpful in convincing Ferrari to get involved in the motorsport World Cup.

The series announced the agreement at the start of the current season that Ferrari will supply engines next season. Teixeira claims that Ecclestone has been very cooperative.

« I want to thank Bernie [Ecclestone] for the help he gave us in the final phase of the agreement, » commented Teixeira in an Italian magazine.

« (Our relationship) is a good thing, and he congratulated me at Monza for the deal concluded with Ferrari. »

Teixeira added that the first contact with Ferrari came from him six months ago, and he believes that both parties will benefit from this partnership, given that the championship visits several key countries for Ferrari.

« For A1GP, there’s nothing better than Ferrari, just as Ferrari is concerned because A1GP provides it with a presence in several emerging countries, » he added.

« We have already scheduled two races in China and one in Malaysia for this season. Of course, we are keeping an eye on the most relevant markets and hope to announce new races in these regions soon. »

Ferrari will start supplying engines for the A1 Grand Prix next season – 2008-09, with operation on bio-ethanol.
