The German team, based in Switzerland, finished the 2007 season in second place behind Ferrari in the constructor’s championship, being greatly aided by the exclusion of McLaren due to a spying scandal!
Mario Theissen hopes for a victory at the beginning of next year. Heidfeld, a race driver in 2008, shares his boss’s optimism for 2008.
« I think we have an additional advantage compared to Ferrari and McLaren, who had to give everything to win the title, whereas Renault and BMW were already able to focus on the next season, » said the German.
« So theoretically, the situation looks quite good, » said Heidfeld on his official website.
« I have a good feeling, but you can’t always rely on your sixth sense; I’ve realized this over the past few years: Indeed, in 2001, Sauber finished in fourth place in the constructors’ championship, and after that, I thought things would get even better, but they didn’t! »
« I don’t think that will be the case next year, but as I said: the best feelings are not enough in Formula 1, » he concluded.
