Ralf Schumacher is indeed heading for a sabbatical year in 2008. The German is not expecting to race in Formula 1 next year, but does not rule out the possibility of a year of competition in another discipline.
« I am going to take a break in 2008 regarding Formula 1, » said Ralf Schumacher.
« I have just gone through three difficult years at Toyota, and Force India is not an option for me for next year. Since the purchase of Spyker, the team wants to start from scratch, which I don’t think is the right option for me. »
Schumacher could return to F1 in 2009: « Theoretically, it is possible to return in 2009 but it won’t be easy. F1 doesn’t wait for anyone on the sidelines! »
Other news about the German driver, he has parted ways with his manager Hans Mahr, who is Austrian by nationality: « We decided some time ago by mutual agreement to no longer continue our collaboration, » stated Mahr.
« Of course, if I can help him in any way in the future, I will do it. »
This working relationship could not bear fruit since it had not even been a year that the two men had partnered.
Schumacher is currently at home with his family in Salzburg, Austria.
