Lewis Hamilton believes that the many difficulties encountered during his first season in Formula 1 can help him become a team leader at McLaren.
Hamilton spent the majority of the 2007 campaign quarreling with his former teammate Fernando Alonso, while his team was also in disarray amidst the turmoil of the spying scandal with Ferrari.
Despite these challenges, Hamilton still managed to finish second in the drivers’ standings. And with Alonso’s departure to Renault, Hamilton feels ready to take on a leadership role within his team.
« All these stories… They were about catastrophes, but it’s the business world, there’s nothing to be done about it, » he told BBC News.
« I don’t think we’ll see all these twists and turns in 2008. I hope that next season will be just as exciting but without stories created outside the F1 cockpit. The sport must take its place again! »
« For me, it’s a very good thing, I am almost considered the team leader. I hope to live up to the work it requires, but I am more than confident, » concluded the Briton.
