Michael Ammermuller declared today that Germany is back in the A1 Grand Prix championship since their victory in the first race in Zhuhai.

The young German had secured pole position and then fought to maintain the lead, thus claiming his first victory in the discipline in only his third race with A1 Team Germany.

« Yes, we are back, » Ammermuller replied in a press conference. « The last time in Malaysia we were as well, only, we couldn’t find the points due to various incidents… »

Germany, currently 8th in the championship with 37 points, still has the mathematical possibility of winning its second consecutive championship. Ammermuller is convinced that his good results are the harbingers.

« Always a little more, as we saw this weekend, we can start to fight for the championship and especially move back up the rankings. »

On his side, his manager, Willy Weber, is happy to have brought him into this discipline to thrive in it.

« Michael [Ammermuller] achieved his first personal victory of the season, and his career is, I think, on the right track, » he specified.

At 21 years old, Ammermuller started his 2007 season with ART Grand Prix in GP2 before injuring his hand and being permanently replaced by Sebastian Buemi. He then continued in the ‘World Series by Renault,’ only to be dropped from the Red Bull young driver program at the end of the season. However, his manager still believes in him.

« I see in him a very talented driver and I think his international career is revived, that’s why I am happy. »

The German will normally be with the A1 Team Germany during the last 6 events of the 2007-08 season, enough to give him time to show what he is capable of.

« The next race, if there are no incidents, he will be able to show once again that he knows how to fight with the leaders of the race.
