Mike Conway, newly confirmed with Trident Racing for the 2008 GP2 season, reportedly has the means to achieve his goals according to his new manager, who thinks or at least hopes that the Briton can make a comeback.
In 2007, Mike Conway only managed one podium finish and ranked only 13th after his first season in the feeder series to Formula 1, driving for Super Nova. The Englishman suffered from several events, such as the retirement of key team members, but mainly from the strong performances of his teammate, Luca Filippi.
Alessandro Bravi Alunni therefore believes that Conway will be able to reach the top again with his team, just as he did in the British F3, of which he is the 2006 champion.
“We know that next season will be crucial for Mike [Conway]’s Formula 1 prospects,” said Bravi. “We will do everything possible to provide him with the best technical equipment and support him in the best way possible.”
Conway, for his part, believed that his experience with races and circuits would be essential in 2008: « It’s quite difficult to be a rookie in GP2. »
« You have difficult circuits and complicated conditions; but now that I know the circuits, it will be easier for me as proven by my race at Silverstone where I knew the track and where I achieved my only podium finish. » concluded the 24-year-old driver.
Bravi showed his support to his new driver by stating that: « Conway had always been our priority driver for our 2008 lineup. »
Conway also conducted several tests in Jerez and Valencia this month with Honda and Super-Aguri. The Englishman may secure a place in F1 as a test driver.
