Audi tested several more or less well-known drivers this weekend, thanks to Formula 1, to finalize their line-up for the 2008 DTM season.
The German brand, the sole and unique competitor of Mercedes in the touring championship and reigning champion, tested nearly 20 drivers on the Spanish circuit of Almeria in Andalusia.
Among the 18 drivers tested to replace Vannina Ickx in 2008, there was only one Frenchman, Nicolas Prost, son of the four-time F1 world champion, Alain Prost.
The Spanish F3 driver was competing with four women in particular: Emma Kimiläinen, Rahel Frey, Nataca Gachnang, and Steffi Halm.
Christijan Albers was also present, still not having secured a spot in F1. There was also Adrian Valles, Markus Winkelhock, and Filipe Albuquerque – three other drivers likely to land a test driver position in Formula 1 in 2008.
Marco Bonanomi, André Lotterer, Johannes Stuck, Alvaro Barba, Stephen Jelley, Miguel Molina, Jan Seyffarth, Dirk Werner were also testing just like Oliver Jarvis – driver for A1 Team Great Britain this season in A1 Grand Prix.
Most of them have already driven for Audi in a 2006 DTM either in 2007 or the previous year, but according to our information, it is the German Markus Winkelhock who seems to have the best chances of securing a seat with Audi in 2008.
