Mattias Ekström, 2007 DTM champion with Audi, stated in Autosport magazine that he could be even faster in 2008.
The Swede won the German championship for the second consecutive time by holding off the Mercedes drivers until the last race of the year. The harvest is not bad… but Ekstrom hopes to be even more successful with Audi next year.
« We had a great season and it was really nice to get this title… » Commented Ekstrom. « But it wasn’t really an easy year for us… »
« With a slight improvement in the second half of the season, we were very strong in qualifying, but in the race, we were slower… » He explained, thus highlighting the team’s weaknesses.
« This is not a big problem, however, because we always have the opportunity to improve, and that means we will not give up this winter. »
Audi drivers were the fastest in qualifying in the last five rounds of the season, blocking the top three or five spots each time from Mercedes drivers. Nevertheless, at the end of the races, it was Mercedes that was the best-represented team.
