It has been said that Deutsche Telekom might collaborate with the BMW Sauber team in 2008. This information, which should be taken with caution, would make sense for the German team since they currently do not have a telecommunications sponsor.
Deutsche Telekom recently ended its collaboration with the Neuer Strassen Sport team following scandals that caused significant harm. The company is therefore looking for an alternative.
It is impossible for Deutsche Telekom to rejoin McLaren Mercedes-Benz as the team is now supported by rival Vodafone, and thus the second choice would be BMW Sauber.
It is believed that the fact that former BMW race chief Wolfgang Reitzle is on the telecommunications company’s board of directors has been of valuable assistance for what appears to be a future collaboration.
BMW hasn’t had a sponsor in telecommunications since 2006 with O2. At the end of that same year, O2 was taken over by the Spanish telecommunications company Telefonica.
