Luca Filippi has found a seat for 2008 in GP2. The young Italian, for his third season in the discipline, will participate in the championship with ART Grand Prix.
The French team – winner of the constructors’ championship in 2006 – officially announced his arrival yesterday during a press conference, mentioning that the Italian – 4th in 2007 – had made his decision after the first off-season tests in Jerez last month.
« I am really happy because I tested different teams this winter and I really appreciated the work we accomplished during my test at ART, » commented the former Super-Nova driver.
« I found a very professional and highly motivated team. I think that with my potential and that of the team, our goal will be to win the title in 2008… »
« My goal will be to fight for the win every race weekend and I think that, thanks to my experience and with the help of the team, we will be able to achieve this objective. » continued the 22-year-old Italian.
Filippi, winner of the first 2007 race in Bahrain, will therefore be Romain Grosjean’s teammate next season at ART. Nicolas Todt – co-owner of the team declared: « I am very happy to have reached an agreement with Luca [Filippi] because he is a very talented driver. »
He has a very professional approach and a lot of experience in the series, which is really useful when aiming for the top step…
Fred Vasseur, the other co-owner of the tricolor team continued: « The winter testing we had with Luca makes me think he is the person we needed to take the team and Romain [Grosjean] to the top. »
Filippi had hopes of becoming a full-time driver in 2008 with Super-Aguri in Formula 1. Ultimately, he completes the 2008 season in GP2, and there are only a few spots available. A report will be published very soon on the website.
