The young British runner-up in the 2007 Formula 1 World Championship, Lewis Hamilton, met with the French Gendarmerie this morning in the north of the country.
Indeed, at the wheel of a Mercedes CLK, a gift from McLaren, his team, Hamilton was caught by radar of a patrol on the A26 highway, near Laon, 60 km north of Reims.
According to the national gendarmerie statement, Kovalainen’s teammate in 2008 was “very courteous and did not offer any resistance.”
Caught at exactly 196 km/h, nearly 45 km/h over the speed limit, the penalty was immediate. Lewis Hamilton had his driver’s license suspended for one month, in addition to a fine of 600 Euros. He left the Gendarmerie by taxi, concluded the spokesperson.
