As the 2008 season kicks off in just over a month with the legendary Monte Carlo, the reigning world champion BP FORD team has just announced Jari-Matti Latvala as the successor to the newly retired Marcus Grönholm.
In 2007, as a driver for Stobart, the young 22-year-old Finn accumulated first-class performances and, most importantly, experience. Let’s recall that he finished third on the podium at the Rally of Ireland and 8th in the overall standings. Latvala will therefore assist his compatriot Mikko Hirvonen, who will take on the role of leader within the team.
« I would like to thank Stobart for running Jari-Matti this season » explains Malcolm Wilson. « He has gained a lot of confidence and has become the most promising driver in the WRC. His performances in the second half of the season have put him in pole position for this seat. Knowing that he will now do much more testing, I believe his performances can only improve. »
